The Crimp Info office is located close to the historic market town of Newark and our home is very close to the famous Sherwood Forest. It is part of PKG Consultants LLP and provides fully independent advice on any and all connector tooling related issues.

Our senior partner Paul Kerry has over 30 years of experience in the connector tooling industry and a specialist knowledge of crimping, torque tightening and RFI banding. He has also having worked for and with tooling manufacturers, distributors & Original Equipment Manufacturers in the USA, UK and mainland Europe and is well placed to provide:

Paul has been at the forefront of some technologically challenging programmes including:

• Advising the UK Telecommunications industry in it is programme to change from soldering to crimping Type 43 connectors and developing the necessary tool for use on the inner contacts of their Radio Frequency connectors.

• Advising on the development of a fully portable field maintenance kit to support all aspects of terminating fibre optic connectors for the Typhoon fighter aircraft. This included:
  • Design & development
  • Testing: ATEX [explosive atmosphere], Sand and Dust ingress tests, Drop testing, Vibration, EMC, Humidity.
  • Sourcing: Commercially off the shelf items to compliment the design & development items to provide complete kit capability.

• Promoting an alternative to time consuming lock wire to airlines and aircraft engine manufacturers including physically installing components into the manufacturers’ equipment. This system is now approved for use at many airlines and their engine suppliers: For example Lufthansa, Iberia Airlines, Rolls Royce and General Electric.

Paul has also advised engineers across the industry on the correct use of a wide range of connector tooling issues. He has first-hand knowledge of hand operated crimping tools pneumatic and hydraulically operated crimping tools and has run development programmes with major manufacturers and distributors for systems maintenance repair kits. Paul has contributed to several committees involved in the writing of industry standards such as Defence and British Standards as well as working on the ACE/6/8 committee who have  been involved in writing the standard to cover the introduction of specific crimping tools for metric wires.
