D Sub Miniature

D-Sub Miniature connectors (D-Sub for short) usually have multiple rows of pins or socket contacts surrounded by a “D” shaped metal shield. There are usually 5 shell sizes ranging from 9 – 50 contacts.

Commercial versions of D-Sub connectors may use a fixed selector setting crimp tool with an integral positioner, but these tools have a limited wire size range so it would be necessary to use two tools for the full wire range available.

Military approved versions of D-Sub connectors are available for high reliability applications and have part numbers prefixed by M24308/*. The contacts will have a BIN (Basic Identification Number) stripe code on the contact barrel. These contacts are crimped using a fully adjustable MIL-DTL-22520/ approved crimping tool. The addition of interchangeable positioners allows for a greater scope or wire range from 20 – 24 AWG and 22 – 28 AWG with a single tool.

Double ended insertion/removal tools with a plastic body are available. An option of an individual insertion or removal tweezer style tool is also available for sizes 20 and 22D contacts.
